Welcome to the 2022-23 Annual Report, where we highlight LILA’s greatest achievements of the year. This year was filled with outstanding accomplishments that our community should be proud of. The purchase of the Pickwick property which nearly doubled the size of our Burbank campus, a new Brand Identity Strategy including our new tagline, and more than $808,000 raised in Annual Fund support are just a few highlights that made this year special. We’re thrilled to be sharing this success with the LILA community, because none of this could happen without you.
With gratitude,
Leslie Galerne ‘97

Community Highlights
LILA Alumni Association
LA and Paris Alumni Happy Hour Events
On Thursday, June 15th, LILA held its first LA alumni event in recent years. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and nostalgia as alumni from years past returned to their alma mater!
This event was a wonderful opportunity for LILA graduates to revisit the School, reconnect with old friends, and reflect on unforgettable experiences. With more than 30 alumni in attendance, the evening was filled with laughter, heartwarming conversations, and the strong sense of community LILA is known for.
Since its founding in 1978, LILA has been dedicated to nurturing young minds and helping students become confident, and caring bilingual critical thinkers. The success of our mission was never more evident that night as alumni conversed about the different paths they took and the great experiences they’ve had since graduation.
As the evening drew to a close, alumni left with fond memories and a promise to stay connected. As we look forward to more events that bring us together, we will continue to celebrate the special bond that unites us as LILA Lions.
In the Spring, alumni in Paris enjoyed a get together overseas. Head of School, Michael Maniska, and Burbank Campus Director, Mathieu Mondage joined our alumni for drinks, eats, and good stories. Everyone is looking forward to hosting more get-togethers in the future.
AJ Memorial Basketball Game
Once again, our community gathered on the basketball court of the Burbank campus this past May for the 7th Annual AJ Ramseyer ‘14 Memorial Alumni Game. This tradition continues to show the strength of LILA’s community and the impact he had on those he loved.
What began as a way to honor his memory has grown to become a beloved event that brings our community together in a unique and heartwarming way. The day was filled with thrilling moments, cheers, and applause that echoed across our campus. The alumni team typically has the upper hand and this year was no exception! The students played hard and competed as best they could, but the alumni pulled off another victory winning 55-54!
After the game, fans, players, parents and students enjoyed courtside refreshments before heading home. We thank the Ramseyer family for keeping such a lovely event going.
School News and Updates
Pickwick Purchase
Our school acquired the Pickwick property, a beautiful 3.8-acre piece of land adjacent to our existing Burbank campus, during Summer 2022. This strategic move has expanded our campus size from five to approximately nine acres, opening up a world of possibilities for our students.
The LILA Board of Trustees is exploring options for the property and will be working on a Master Plan. In the meantime, the additional space has been used for exams, events, and extra parking for parents and faculty.
We’re excited about the potential it offers our community and grateful for the continued support of our families.
Brand Identity Strategy
2022-23 saw the launch of our new Brand Identity Strategy, an initiative spearheaded by the dedicated members of the LILA Board of Trustees Marketing and Communications Committee, composed of Trustees, School Leadership, and members of the Advancement Team.
The creation of this strategy was no small task. It involved a thorough and inclusive process of research and feedback before being finalized. The goal was to authentically capture the essence of LILA, the spirit of our community that has made our school a truly wonderful place for learning and growth.
To achieve this, the Brand Identity Strategy was developed, in part, by drawing from the insights of numerous members of LILA’s diverse community. Teachers, current and former parents, students, alumni, and staff were all given the opportunity to share their thoughts and experiences, contributing their unique perspectives to the construction of our brand identity.
The outcome of this approach is a brand identity strategy that will achieve several key objectives including a clear and cohesive image, clear language and stronger brand awareness. This was an important accomplishment for our school, and it could not have been done without the LILA community members who participated, or the hard work of the Marketing and Communications Committee.

Annual Fund
Thanks to the incredible support and generosity of our community, the 2022-23 Annual Fund campaign was a success! Last year we exceeded our goal raising more than $808,000. This outstanding achievement showcases the dedication of our volunteers and donors, whose contributions have made a significant impact on the educational experience we provide to our students.
Families from each campus showed solidarity, achieving 84% overall participation, reflecting the strong sense of unity and commitment among our community members. Additionally, the West Valley campus made a huge leap, garnering an impressive 73% campus participation rate from parents. These numbers signify the profound support and belief in LILA’s mission.
We’d like to send a huge thank you to everyone who played a role in making this year’s Annual Fund a resounding success. Together, we will continue to bolster our educational programs, further enriching the experiences of our students and faculty alike.
A big merci to all of our volunteers!
