Surf with LILA

La Vague offers a surfing program tailored to LILA students. Lessons will take place at the world famous Malibu Surfrider Beach (Malibu Pier) every Saturday morning.
Malibu Surfrider Beach is a perfect surf spot to learn how to surf: the waves are easy and safe. Beginners will stay on the inside catching small waves; intermediate/advanced students will have the option to go outside and look for bigger waves.
Whether you have never surfed before or if you just want to improve your skills, La Vague has the coaching skills that will enable you to reach your goals.
Your personal safety is the primary concern, La Vague Coach Greg is certified in CPR/first aid by the American Red Cross and holds the BNSSA (French Life saving Certificate).
Coach Greg will teach you: surfing techniques (paddling, catching waves, standing up, etc…), ocean awareness, and surf etiquette.
The small group allows La Vague to deliver top quality lessons and personalized instruction in a safe and professional manner. It is a semester package, which means you will attend a lesson every week during 4 months. This is the best way to improve your skills. At the end of the semester your improvements will be significant.
Instruction will be done in French by a Brevet d’Etat de Surf accredited instructor which is unique in Southern California!

Grégory Closier
Surf Coach
My name is Grégory Closier, I bring more than 20 years of surfing, paddling and coaching experience. I was born in 1975 in St. Renan, France, and has been surfing my entire life. I’m married to Céline and I’m a proud father of my daughter Capucine.
I have traveled the world and surfed perfect waves in exotic locations such as: Indonesia, Hawaii, Morocco, Australia, Mexico, Portugal, Reunion Island and more. I’ve always been in love with California. I like the lifestyle, the surfing culture, the waves. I created in 2015 ‘’La Vague Surf Experience’’ to help others discover southern California and to learn how to surf.
Driven by the desire to share my passion for ocean sports with others, I successfully earned the prestigious French Surf Instructor Certificate from the French Surfing Federation (Brevet d’Etat de Surf). Then I established a surf school “SWEETSPOT Surf School” at my home break of Penfoul Beach in Brittany in 2004, where I established a strong reputation as one of the best surf schools in Brittany.
I’ve been teaching many people how to surf and I’ve been coaching top international athletes.
As a natural competitor, I enjoy pushing myself to test the limits of my performance. Training and coaching are part of my lifestyle. Sharing my passion is something I really enjoy, whether it is surfing with kids, helping adults catch their first wave, or coaching professional athletes. I really like the feeling of being useful and helping people feel good.
