Middle School Educational Framework

Fostering intellectual curiosity, cooperative learning, and student-driven exploration

Middle school at the International School of Los Angeles offers an internationally minded program that encourages critical thinking skills and intellectual curiosity. We combine rigorous academics from the French and American programs with a diverse athletic program, and other expansive extracurricular options, to engage students both inside and outside the classroom.

Teachers foster intellectual curiosity, cooperative learning, and student-driven exploration. Our faculty serves as mentors and guides, but students drive their own learning. Our integrated Social Emotional Learning program (SEL), led by dedicated advisors, supports students’ social and emotional growth.

We boast a homeroom program designed by experts at Stanford University, which helps young people develop their sense of belonging, purpose, and community. Students hone their executive functioning skills, while also learning how to function and position themselves in a community to develop a sense of belonging as well as autonomy.

Our goal is to create learners who are confident, open-minded, critical thinkers in an international, globally engaged environment. We nurture each child’s interests, curiosity, and drive so they can become responsible, autonomous learners who can see and act beyond their immediate community.
